Hayman Island Walks

Hayman Island Walks
Hayman Island Australia is a private island so if you have a boat and want to moor and walk around the island you are not supposed to. You can snorkel anywhere though, except the resort beach (above pic) which is strictly private for guests. If you are daring and want to explore the walking tracks on Hayman more then just moor at Blue Pearl Bay, follow the walking track up the hillside then turn left. This track goes all the way around the island. Watch out for snakes and take plenty of water and a first aid kit.
Plots of land are for sale on Hayman Island. The most famous owner of one of these magnificent pieces of land was Lisday Fox. He’d moor his big cruiser in the shallow waters on the south side of the island. You could see his boat there from time to time.
There is a track that makes a loop of the whole island. Following that track south of the resort the first stop is the Sunset Bar. The view is as promising as the name suggests with the light blue tropical waters glistening in the midday sun and white sand blindingly bright with bits of sand and shell twinkling like stars. The Sunset Bar is a concrete paved platform a few metres up off the beach complete with a big double BBQ and thatch roofed cover over top. Broken palm branches, dried and randomly scattered around the once-used area. The story was it used to be a place for staff parties but no one used the area anymore due to security imposed restrictions.
The land for sale on Hayman was marked out with long red sticks stuck into the ground that had a single number written upon them, the grass was almost so long that the signs were hardly visible. There were twenty-two lots for sale. Each lot had a level platform constructed out of high quality pine that had been treated with a dark varnish. The platforms were about one and half metres squared and had one single rail across the front. If you preferred to sit like I did there was enough room to sit and stretch your legs out to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Looking south from this hovering platform on the hillside I have the view to the dense green bushland over at Hook Island, a deserted island national park. The body of water in between Hayman and Hook is a deep channel with a strong, ocean current which is a dark blue colour, but on the edge the water was light blue and shallow. Surrounding Hayman was a myriad of coral was could be seen from this high vantage point.
A light breeze comes from the east in the morning carrying a little coolness with it. Gazing out to the south east is the open ocean, somewhere out there are the tropical islands, the cook islands, Vanuatu, Hawaii and all the way across was the Americas. I gazed out to that view and felt such peace and relaxation and wondered about all the travellers who voyaged the open water over the history of human kind. This was such a beautiful place to sit and I was truly lucky to be there to enjoy it.
