The Pacific Wind Whitsundays

January 8th 2009 10:45
The Pacific Wind Whitsundays On South Molle Island in the Whitsundays Australia, there are about seven different trails you can walk around. When I was working as a room attendant there I loved to get away from the staff village after work and go wandering.
There is the most amazing place to go to on the walking track that leads to the secluded beach on the opposite side to the resort. The beach is nice but on the way there is the most beautiful view you'll ever have of the ocean and islands.
Once you walk through the bushland which winds up through the gully that cuts through the centre of the island, you follow a gentle incline and the landscape opens up into a beautiful grassy meadow.

The air is always so clear and fresh when you arrive at the end of the canopy of the gum trees, bracken and vines. A sense of lightness comes over you when you are there alone. You hear only sounds of the birds moving through the trees, your shoes crunching on the dry rocky path and the rustle of the wind through the long grass around the path. The earth hums its gentle rhythmic tune and it truly feels like you are in a special place.
Walk up the incline of the grassy field and follow the path to the top. You will get to a place right at the top and you will know what I am talking about when it happens to you. At first the view of the ocean becomes visible and it is just breathtaking. Green islands are everywhere scattered through stunning blue ocean waters. Keep walking up to the top of the hill then Bam! The wind hits you.

This is no breeze my friend, this is a wind with a force behind it that means you can lean into it. The wind of the Pacific.
I used to stand there with my arms out and let it try to bowl me over. It was not gusty at all, just a steady up flow of wind. I used to imagine how far the wind had travelled over the great Pacific Ocean before it got to this place on the island. What an experience.
I highly recommend you stop over at South Molle Island and explore the hillside and feel that amazing breath of the ocean and sky hit you and fill up you lungs with good, clean, well travelled air. Beautiful.
Happy Travels
